‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Preview Hints at Devastating News for Blue as His Future at Grey Sloan Hangs in the Balance

Benson “Blue” Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) might be back in the house — er, hospital — but that doesn’t mean he’s getting a warm welcome.

In the above preview for next week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy, “It’s All Wrong, But It’s All Right,” Blue returns to Grey-Sloan Memorial after Seth Norton (James Wolk) rehired him to the residency program in Thursday’s (October 22) episode. However, one person who is not happy about that decision is Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.).

When Blue shows up and tells Richard he’s on his service, the former chief explains, “I don’t think you understand. You will not set a foot in my OR.”

Ahead of the Season 23 premiere, showrunner Meg Marinis told TV Insider that Blue would have a hard row to hoe when it came to getting back into Richard’s good graces: “We’re going to see the fallout from Blue getting fired at the end of last season and him trying to make amends. He has a long road to go in terms of regaining Richard’s trust again, and we’ll have to wait and see if that leads to him potentially getting his job back.”

Elsewhere in the preview, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) finds out the hard way that Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack) is still in pain when he starts searching for the pain pills she had already thrown away, thinking he was recovered. Jo will also need to get back to work, at least for now, to help with Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd) after she, who is still pregnant, it seems, has a fainting spell.

Plus, Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) and Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane) continue to struggle with the power imbalance that his new role as Miranda Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) substitute director has caused in their relationship.

The official description for the episode, which airs on Thursday, October 29, reads, “As Blue fights to reclaim his place at Grey Sloan, Jo is pulled from motherhood back into the OR. Jules and Winston’s relationship remains strained, and Bailey struggles to find her footing as a student.”
