The actress reveals in her new memoir that she and the former soccer star quietly tied the knot in upstate New York in summer 2025
Sophia Bush and Ashlyn Harris are married!
The actress, 44, reveals in her forthcoming memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress, that she and the former professional soccer player quietly tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in upstate New York in summer 2025.
Bush and Harris, who have been together for three years, were joined by Harris’ two children, Sloane and Ocean, for the private celebration, the couple revealed to Vogue in a story published on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
“When you get to this stage in your life, you begin to unpack what’s yours and what’s always sort of been for everyone else,” Bush told the outlet of their decision to keep the milestone intimate.
The One Tree Hill alum reflected on how both she and Harris, 40, have spent much of their adult lives in the public eye — Bush as an actress and Harris as a professional athlete.

“It’s such a privilege to be able to perform as an athlete or an actor, but it also comes with certain costs,” Bush said.
For their wedding day, however, the pair stripped away the pressures that can come with a large celebration and focused on their family.
“The kids were just running and happy, and we picked flowers from the property and our daughter Sloane was holding them,” Harris recalled. “It was so fun for them, because it wasn’t this pressure-filled day that’s too much for young kids.”
Bush said the newlyweds ended the evening roasting marshmallows with their family.

“It was so precious, and zero pressure,” she recalled. “I will never forget it, and I think wedding days sometimes aren’t like that.”
Rather than announcing their marriage publicly afterward, Bush and Harris traveled around the country to tell their loved ones the happy news in person.
Once everyone close to them knew, Bush said she was ready to share their new status with the rest of the world, in part because she was tired of referring to Harris simply as her “partner.”
“You’re not my partner, you know? You’re my wife,” Bush told Harris. “And it feels so amazing to say that.”
The marriage revelation comes as Bush prepares for the Oct. 27 release of her first memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress, which has been nearly a decade in the making.
“I think I finally had to feel ready to answer the call,” Bush previously told PEOPLE of writing the book. “I’ve had my lovely book agent who has the patience of a saint and a handful of editors asking me to write a book for a decade. And for nine years, I said no.”
“I think when your life finally feels like all the pieces are in the right place, you start to realize why people might want you to share your story,” she added.
In an excerpt from the memoir published by Vogue, Bush reflects on why she and Harris decided to keep their wedding to themselves at first, writing that after years of having so much of her personal life publicly scrutinized, she wanted the milestone to belong to them before sharing it with the world.
Bush also writes about finding inspiration in the decades-long marriage of Harris’ grandparents and realizing that Harris was the person with whom she wanted to build her own life.
The actress also reflects on her willingness to embrace marriage again despite knowing firsthand that relationships can end. Bush was previously married to Chad Michael Murray from 2005 to 2006 and Grant Hughes from 2022 to 2024.

Bush and Harris were first linked in October 2023. Bush publicly came out as queer and confirmed their relationship in a 2024 Glamour cover story.
Speaking to Vogue about their decision to share their relationship and marriage publicly, Harris said visibility remained important to them.
“This conversation is not about Sophia and I. We know the love we share,” Harris said, adding that “the visibility piece matters” for young people who may not yet feel seen.
Bush and Harris both serve on the board of the Human Rights Campaign and have been active supporters of LGBTQ+ causes.
