Wednesday season 2, part 2, included numerous reveals about its characters’ pasts, but its huge reveal about Barry Dort’s real identity was actually foreshadowed five episodes earlier. Following Wednesday season 2, part 1’s ending, resulting in the show’s character being in a coma, season 2’s second half had a lot of threads to tie together.
Wednesday season 2, part 2, quickly proved that Wednesday’s enemies were far more dangerous and powerful than the Avian, as concerning family secrets came to light. It wasn’t only the Addams Family that had secrets, though, as Wednesday season 2, part 2’s ending confirmed that Barry Dort had his own dark history.
Barry Dort’s Corinthian Coral Souvenir Was A Huge Clue To His Real History With Sirens & Morning Song

Wednesday season 2, part 2 revealed that Nevermore Academy’s new principal, Barry Dort, was in fact the leader of the cult, Morning Song. Since Steve Buscemi’s Wednesday season 2 character introduction, Dort has seemed suspicious, but it was not until season 2, episode 7, that his real plan was uncovered.
Dort’s identity twist was pretty surprising in the moment, but looking back at his behavior during Wednesday season 2, part 1, there was actually a very clear clue to his true identity. In season 2, episode 2, Bianca learned that her principal is immune to her siren song after attempting to use her powers on him.
Dort made it clear that he carried Corinthian coral with him as protection, hinting that he had previous experience with Siren song, a supernatural ability of Wednesday‘s Outcasts. From that point, all of his behavior, which initially read as pride for his school, highlighted his manipulation tactics and how deeply they were connected with Sirens.
He immediately approached Bianca about helping to raise money and even made it clear that she should use her powers to do so, knowing that she was vulnerable thanks to her mother’s past and her scholarship status. This was remarkably similar to the description of the Morning Song cult in Wednesday seasons 1 and 2, hinting at his true identity.
Barry Dort’s Messaging About Outcasts At Nevermore Mirrored Morning Song’s Outcast Mission

Beyond using the Corinthian coral as a sneaky clue toward Dort’s real identity, Wednesday season 2 made it clear that his messaging about Outcasts did not change. When Dort made his debut, he was immediately framed as being opposite to Nevermore’s former principal, Larissa Weems, because of his Outcast pride.
Barry Dort also encouraged Nevermore students to embrace their true identities as Outcasts without bothering to adhere to Normie rules. This was remarkably similar to the ethos under which Morning Song operated. The cult was advertised as a space for Outcasts to feel safe while actually operating as a self-help scam.
At both Nevermore and Morning Song, Dort attempted to highlight Outcast pride and the importance of an Outcast community. He drew favor with Nevermore’s students until his true plan and murder of Morning Song’s leader, Gideon, came to light. Without his Siren song protection, Dort was defeated and killed, putting an end to his potential Wednesday season 3 return.
