Outlander executive producer Matthew B Roberts has teased the franchise could continue beyond its eighth and final season.
Ahead of the historical fantasy drama’s epic finale premiering next March on Starz and MGM+ via Prime Video, fans have been given a stunning first-look at the returning main cast.
Series leads Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan huddle up as author Diana Gabaldon’s iconic creations Claire Fraser and Jamie Fraser, preparing to face their toughest chapter yet.
Also returning are Sophie Skelton as their daughter, Brianna Fraser, along with Richard Rankin as Roger MacKenzie.
Heughan also appears as strapping as ever besides Jamie’s best friend Lord John Grey (David Berry), and his secret son, William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart). Finally, John Bell’s Young Ian Murray is all smiles with his wife Rachel Hunter (Izzy Meikle-Small).

However, the new official photos of the core cast aren’t the only thrilling titbits given fans this week as they await the new season.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, EP Roberts has also dropped some enticing hints about what’s coming up next year, including an ending to the show he says “kept me up at night”.

The TV adaptation’s ending will differ from Gabaldon’s series of novels, which will come to an end with its 10th entry. Roberts also confirms multiple endings of the show were filmed “for security reasons”.

As for the future of the franchise, dedicated Outlander viewers also have at least one more season of the prequel spin-off, Blood of My Blood, to look forward to.
But, Roberts has also shared a rare indication that Claire and Jamie’s stories may very well continue beyond the final season.
Teasing whether the series could make the leap to the big screen in a sequel film, he said: “It’s certainly been talked about, but it’s all about where people are in their lives.

“I’ve heard not only the producers, but the cast, say ‘never, say never.’”
Could the cast eventually reassemble to adapt the final books in Gabaldon’s epic saga?
