10 Things KPop Demon Hunters 2 Needs to Succeed

Since its release, Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters has achieved massive levels of popularity. The action-packed, anime-inspired musical has more than resonated with audiences, and there are strong demands from the fandom for a follow-up. Whether that takes the form of a second film, or a full TV series, fans want more of HUNTR/X and their colorful world.

KPop Demon Hunters is one of the best movies of 2025, and it laid the groundwork for a spectacular sequel. There are numerous directions a sequel could go in but, just based on the first film, there are certain things that definitely need to be included. Certain characters need more attention, certain plot elements are begging to be expanded upon, and a number of questions need to be answered.

10.Mira’s Past Absolutely Demands to Be Fleshed Out

Mira is One of KPop Demon Hunters’ Breakout Stars

Mira has quickly become one of the most popular characters in KPop Demon Hunters, and it’s easy to see why. She has a gorgeous design, a killer bad attitude, a hilariously aggressive fighting style, and some of the best lines in HUNTR/X’s songs. Apart from being Rumi’s main foil throughout the film, though, Mira has no storyline to herself.

Mira needs to be the protagonist of her own plot in KPop Demon Hunters 2. Obvious directions to go here would be for the sequel to either delve into what her troubled life with her wealthy birth family was like before she found her real family in HUNTR/X, or to deliver on the Miromabby ship that’s exploded in the fandom. Alternatively, Mira is a dynamic enough character that she could easily be given something completely new to do.

9.Zoey Got the Least Attention Among HUNTR/X in KPop Demon Hunters

Zoey is in Great Need of More Development

Zoey in KPop Demon Hunters

With Rumi being the main character of KPop Demon Hunters, and Mira acting as her foil, Zoey sadly winds up being the most neglected member of HUNTR/X in the film. It’s a testament to the quality of her writing that, despite her lack of plot relevance, she still manages to be lovable, hilarious, and endearing in every scene she’s in. Even still, it’s clear that HUNTR/X’s rapper deserves more.

There are a number of things that set Zoey apart from Rumi and Mira that could be used as fuel for a subplot of her own. She’s the only member of the group originally from America. She’s the youngest and most immature of the group, and while she was able to let go of her sense of shame at the end of the first film, she’s likely still overly eager to please everyone around her. There’s also the potential to give her a love interest, with Baby and Mystery being the most popular choices among fans.

8.Rumi’s Demon Side Needs to Be Explored More

Rumi Has Only Just Started to Figure Out Who She Really Is

Rumi as a demon - KPop Demon Hunters

The culmination of Rumi’s character arc in KPop Demon Hunters sees her shed her shame over being half demon. While this makes for an emotional climax, her journey of self-growth is far from being over. Rumi has only just begun embracing her demon side, and this needs to be a major part of KPop Demon Hunters 2.

As a contrast to the way Rumi spent her life hiding her patterns from her friends, it would be sweet to see her openly seeking out Mira and Zoey’s help with better understanding herself. They aren’t the only ones who could aid her in the next stage of her growth. Even with the final Honmoon created at the end of the first film, Derpy and Sussy are still present on Earth and, of course, Rumi now carries around Jinu as her sword.

7.Rumi and Jinu Need to Share Another Duet

Jinu Being Dead Doesn’t Mean He and Rumi Can’t Still Sing Together

Jinu dies protecting Rumi - KPpop Demon Hunters

A classic tragic romance, the relationship between Rumi and Jinu was a major highlight of KPop Demon Hunters. With Jinu dying at the end of the film, though, it’s possible they’ll never get the chance to try being a real couple. However, that doesn’t mean Rumi and Jinu can’t still share another duet as powerful as “Free.”

As of the end of the first film, Rumi now welds what remains of Jinu as her sword. Even if KPop Demon Hunters 2 doesn’t bring the former demon back to life, it wouldn’t be out of place for Rumi to imagine singing with him during a low moment. Of course, there’s always the option to just fully bring Jinu back, which plenty of shippers would have zero complaints about.

6.HUNTR/X’s First Meeting Could Make For an Amazing Scene

Only Rumi Was Always Raised by Celine

Before they were recruited by Celine, Mira and Zoey lived their own, independent lives from each other, and from Rumi. It could be fun and emotional to see how Celine brought Mira and Zoey into the world of demon hunting, and what their first time meeting each other and Rumi was like. KPop Demon Hunters 2 doesn’t need to dwell on this for too long, but it would be a great way to further flesh out HUNTR/X’s origins.

With the girls closer than ever after the events of the first film, and in a position where they shouldn’t be fighting each other at all, it could be a funny contrast if they didn’t get along at all initially. It would also be interesting to see the contrast between Rumi, who was raised in this world, and Zoey and Mira, who spent their early years as normal kids. Whatever KPop Demon Hunters 2 decided to show, it would definitely elevate the film.

5.KPop Demon Hunters Fans Need to Know the Story Behind Rumi’s Parents

Rumi is Defined by the Forbidden Love Between Her Human Mother and Demon Father

Something that goes unexplained in KPop Demon Hunters is the exact story of how Rumi’s mother, a hunter, fell in love with a demon. It would not be at all a surprise if the main plot of KPop Demon Hunters 2 was directly tied to this lingering mystery. It’s one of the subjects fans are most eager to speculate on, and it’s likely something Rumi has thought about her entire life.

As indicated by the enormous number of fan theories, there are countless directions KPop Demon Hunters 2 could go here. Perhaps the related theory that would shake up the status quo most is one that states Rumi’s parents are still alive, and together in the demon realm. It wouldn’t be out of character for Celine to have lied to Rumi all her life, it would force HUNTR/X to travel into enemy territory, and Rumi could meet her parents for the first time – for better or for worse.

4.The KPop Demon Hunters Fandom isn’t Ready to Let Go of the Saja Boys

Fans Would Love to See the Surviving Saja Boys Get More Development

The Saja Boys may have been defeated in KPop Demon Hunters but, in real life, they’re still just as popular as HUNTR/X. Fans cannot get enough of the demonic boy band, or their hit songs, “Soda Pop” and “Your Idol.” In fact, the only complaint most viewers have of the Saja Boys is that, besides Jinu, they didn’t get nearly enough screentime.

During the climax of the first film, the Saja Boys are seemingly killed by HUNTR/X. However, because of how demons work in this universe, they most likely just returned to the Demon Realm, except for Jinu. KPop Demon Hunters 2 can flesh out Baby, Random, Mystery and Abby, and potentially set up romances between them, and Mira and Zoey.

3.Villains Other Than Gwi-Ma Are a Necessity For KPop Demon Hunters 2

Celine Would Make Perfect Sense as the Next Enemy of HUNTR/X

Celine in KPop Demon Hunters

Gwi-Ma and the demons made perfect sense as the villains of KPop Demon Hunters, given the themes of the film. However, there’s someone else who caused just as much pain in Rumi’s life as the ruler of the Demon Realm, and that’s her mentor Celine. Having raised Rumi with conditional love, and with the idea that she could only overcome her demon side and be good if she dedicated herself to killing all demons, she is responsible for everything wrong with Rumi in the first film, and it’s difficult to imagine her taking the new status quo well.

Celine would be a very different type of antagonist for HUNTR/X to face in KPOP Demon Hunters 2, but one who could ensure that the main conflict was just as emotional as the original’s. She could also be used as a means to introduce a new band, if she felt that she could no longer trust HUNTR/X, and needed new students. Focusing on Celine would also give the film the opportunity to show what her own time as a hunter was like.

2.The World and Lore of KPop Demon Hunters Are Ripe For Expansion

HUNTR/X Traveling Around the World Would Work Especially Well For a TV Series

Rumi kicks a demon in KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters has one of the best-realized original settings of any animated film in recent history. It’s imaginative, creative, and colorful, while also being an incredible love letter to Korean and KPop culture. Especially if the film gets an entire spin-off series, it could be a delight to see more of this world outside just the first film’s boundaries.

Under no circumstances should KPop Demon Hunters 2 abandon its main setting in Korea. However, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be entertaining to see HUNTR/X visit Zoey’s initial home in California, or other parts of the world where KPop culture is massively popular. Doing this would help to expand the already fantastic world-building of the first film, adding to the franchise’s potential longevity.

1.KPop Demon Hunters Fans Want More of What Made the Original Great More Than Anything Else

Any KPop Demon Hunters Sequel Needs to Have the Same Magic as the First Film

Regardless of whether KPop Demon Hunters gets a sequel film, or a sequel series, it’s imperative that any follow-up doesn’t try to be overly different. While it should try new things, it shouldn’t abandon any of what made the first film such an instant favorite among millions. KPop Demon Hunters 2 needs the same kinds of personal stories, outstanding songs, and expressive animation as the original, and it especially needs the same heart.

Underneath everything else, KPop Demon Hunters would be nothing without HUNTR/X, and the relationships between Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. The deep love they all share, and the way they’re unabashedly silly and girly, while also being glamorous badasses, is why audiences have fallen in love with the band as much as fans in-universe. KPop Demon Hunters 2 should feel free to experiment, but nothing about HUNTR/X and their dynamics should be touched.
