Willie Shares How He Got to Meet Taylor Swift — And Why Jenna Missed Out

Willie Geist just lived Jenna Bush Hager’s wildest dream, and she now has a major case of FOMO.

While appearing as a guest co-host on TODAY with Jenna & Friends Dec. 17, Willie shared a photo of himself meeting Taylor Swift at a screening for the singer’s “End of an Era” docuseries.

The six-part Disney+ documentary gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at what it took to put together Swift’s iconic “Eras Tour.”

“It’s amazing. If you’ve been to the show, or even if you haven’t been, what went into making that show and pulling it off every night and everything they went through over the course of the tour, it’s incredible,” Willie explained.

The Sunday TODAY host had attended an “Eras Tour” concert with his daughter, so when he was invited to a screening of the docuseries, he jumped at the opportunity to check it out.

“So you go to the screening room downtown in New York. We’re sitting there getting ready to watch the show. Door opens. Taylor Swift walks in the room to thank everyone for coming. Not only that, she sat with us for the entire show, two episodes, and all of her dancers from the tour — including Kam (Saunders) — were all there,” Willie said.

“Kam was there?” Jenna asked.

“Kam was there — and they’re all cheering for each other when they see their friends on the screen because a lot of the series is about them. She highlights not just her but all the people in the show,” Willie said.

After the screening ended, Willie got a special opportunity to meet Swift.

“She was nice enough to take a couple of pictures with some people, and I posted it (on Instagram) because the series was great,” Willie said. “And wow, people really respond to a Taylor Swift photo.”

Turns out, Jenna had the opportunity to go too, but had to turn down the invite. She blamed it on Jenna & Friends’ “mother,” aka executive producer Talia Parkinson-Jones.

“We had a lot of stuff going on that day, a lot of work stuff, so I wrote my mother, Talia Parkinson-Jones, our boss, and I said, ‘Is there any way — please, mother! — is there any way I can move things around?’ And she wrote back, ‘Gosh, I really wish I could say yes, but the answer is no,’” she recalled.

Naturally, Jenna was a little jealous to hear about Willie’s experience at the screening.

“So when you’re telling me all these things, and even when I saw that Instagram, the FOMO was deep,” she said.

“It hurts, doesn’t it?” Willie quipped.

“I mean, she was looking out for the show, but that was my chance,” Jenna said.

“Well, hopefully you’ll have more chances,” he said.

“That was my chance to hang out with Taylor,” Jenna added.

Willie and Jenna then agreed that maybe Swift should just visit Jenna & Friends and Sunday TODAY

“That’s a good package put together,” Willie said.

“Let’s put the pitch together,” Jenna said. “But anyway, Taylor, I love you, and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to come. My mother told me I couldn’t.”
