‘Wednesday’ Fans May Need To Be Patient Again for Season 3

Before Season 2 of Wednesday was released, it was announced that a third season was greenlit. And while the next installment is currently in development, Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger, teasing another Addams Family member that’s going to make an appearance once the show returns. However, don’t expect to see the next installment anytime soon, as Wednesday Season 3 could be released later than expected.

Netflix recently unveiled its 2026 slate, listing the big shows coming to the platform and returning titles like Heartbreak High, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and One Piece. Unfortunately, Wednesday was not included in this massive list. Seasons 1 and 2 had a three-year gap in between, so it’s more likely Season 3 could be released in 2028. However, it was reported that Wednesday could return in 2027 as production is rumored to begin in February 2026.

Wednesday premiered on Netflix in November 2022 and has become a massive success. The show has generated a high 80% critics score and an 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and has received numerous accolades, including two nominations at the Golden Globes for “Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy” and “Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy,” and was nominated for “Outstanding Comedy Series” at the Primetime Emmy Awards. As of writing, Wednesday dominates Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular Shows, with Season 1 taking the top spot with over 252 million views and Season 2 ranking 4th with over 119 million views.

What To Watch if You Like ‘Wednesday’?

Wednesday brings the dark academia genre to the Addams Family franchise, starring Jenna Ortega as an older Wednesday Addams, whose time at Nevermore Academy is filled with mystery and danger. Since it’s going to take a while before Season 3 is released, there are other shows with a similar setup.

One show worth watching is Fate: The Winx Saga, and it’s also available on Netflix. Just like Wednesday, this show brings the colorful Winx Club cartoon to life, but with a dark academia twist. Bloom (Abigail Cowen) attends Alfea and unravels its mysteries and secrets alongside her friends. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled after its second season. Another show worth watching is A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, which stars Wednesday‘s Emma Myers as Pip. In this show, Pip investigates the disappearance of a popular student because she is dissatisfied with the outcome of the original investigation. She takes matters into her own hands as she talks to those close to the victim in hopes of finding some real answers. The show aired back in 2024, and a second season has been greenlit.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Wednesday are available to stream on Netflix. Follow Collider to stay up to date with the latest updates.
