It’s no surprise that Taylor Swift dominated the streaming charts throughout 2025, with her music ranking as the most-streamed of any female artist for 50 weeks of the year.
However, one song broke her near-perfect streak. During week 35, a track by another pop star—not Swift—surged to the top of the charts and ruled the airwaves. That song is “Espresso,” sang by Swift’s pal, Sabrina Carpenter.
Dozens of fans reacted to the year-end review on TikTok. Most people supported Carpenter getting some recognition, even if it means that Swift didn’t get a perfect 52 weeks atop the streaming charts. However, the majority of fans couldn’t help but show Swift major love after the impressive feat.
“Huge Swiftie here: I couldn’t be happier that Sabrina got a week for her release album,” one person wrote.
“Yeaaaaa thats my tay tay!! She is the best and she doesnt deserve all thst hate if u dont like her songs dont listen to them and dont say mean things abt it its her style and swifties love it for a reason so plss just leave her alone cus shes human too,” someone else said.
“TAYLOR. SWIFT. IS. THE. MUSIC. INDUSTRY,” read a third comment.
“Crazy how she was always the most streamed even when other female artists released albums other than Sabrina,” a fourth TikTok user added.
Carpenter’s latest album, Man’s Best Friend, was released in late August. But with the anticipation of Swift’s latest album The Life of a Showgirl and its eventual release in October 2025, there wasn’t much hope to see another female artist grab the top spot. Of course, it is fitting that Carpenter is the only female artist to dethrone Swift. Not only are the two friends, but Carpenter made a surprise appearance during Swift’s Eras Tour. Moreover, Carpenter is one of the only collaborations on Swift’s 12th studio album.
With the last week upon us, it’ll be interesting to see if Swift finishes the year strong. It seems as though she may have some stiff competition with Ariana Grande, however. We’ll just have to wait and see how things shake out.
