Netflix has just added a popular comedy film that’s guaranteed to make Outlander fans see beloved leading man Sam Heughan in a very different light.
The Scottish heartthrob is best known for portraying Highlander Jamie Fraser opposite Caitriona Balfe as his time-travelling wife Claire in the hit Starz series.
After more than 10 years on screens, the hit drama will be coming to an end next year with its eighth and final season, releasing on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK.
Ahead of his final turn as rugged hero Jamie, fans have been enjoying Heughan’s very different roles away from the historical fantasy drama, including a recent foray onto the stage in Macbeth and the steamy modern thriller The Couple Next Door.
Now, Netflix has just added an offering of their own; the hilarious 2018 film The Spy Who Dumped Me.

Starring Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, the action-packed comedy follows two best friends who are relentlessly pursued by assassins when one of their ex-boyfriends is revealed to be a rogue CIA agent.
Heughan portrays Sebastian, one of the men in pursuit of agent Drew (Justin Theroux) with questionable loyalties.
Fans who have already fallen in love with Heughan’s portrayal of author Diana Gabaldon’s beloved Scottish hunk Jamie are in for a thrilling experience if they’ve not watched what could be his furthest role from his star-making performance yet.
One Letterboxd user called The Spy Who Dumped Me “wildly funny”.
“Can’t believe how many times I laughed out loud,” they continued. “I’m 100% sure my friends would act like this if we were thrown into a spy mission. Fighting for our lives but still cracking jokes.”

Someone else shared: “Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon as a comedic duo are the greatest thing that has ever happened or will happen in my life.”
A third fan made a bald claim: “I genuinely think this is the most underrated action comedy of all time.”
Another rave review said: “Tell me that line ain’t some great writing right there. I thought this film would be funny but not THAT FUNNY! Kunis and McKinnon had me almost in tears.
“They both work so well together like peanut butter on toast. The comedy was great and the action was quite violent which kinda surprised me since I wasn’t expecting that.

“And of course I loved every moment of it like I do with any other over the top action flick. If there is a sequel, I will be there.”
There was also high praise for Heughan’s role on IMDb, where one viewer said: “Sam was the best! Loved his character and loved him!” While someone else agreed: “This movie had me laughing out loud! Cute comedy and action packed! Plus gorgeous Sam Heughan rocked it!”
Sadly, a sequel to the comedy-thriller never did surface, but the original is still well worth a watch if you’re in the mood to laugh while finishing up your Christmas wrapping.
