Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s ‘stressful’ custody fight over daughters revealed

Nicole Kidman reportedly put up a strong fight for custody of her and Keith Urban’s children before the exes reached their seemingly amicable divorce settlement.

According to the custody agreement, which Page Six obtained Tuesday, Kidman will have daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 15, for 306 days of the year, while Urban will have them for 59 days — every other weekend from Saturday morning to Sunday night.

“The one thing that became a sticking point was custody of Sunday and Faith,” a source told the Daily Mail on Wednesday. “Keith was initially asking for equal time with their daughters.”

According to the source, that request made the Oscar-winning actress, 58, spiral.

“It was an especially stressful time for Nic,” the source explained. “After almost 20 years of marriage, she certainly knows how stubborn Keith can be. She was anxious and distressed that he wasn’t going to budge.”

Kidman fought hard to have the girls the vast majority of the time “because she wasn’t given that benefit when she divorced Tom Cruise,” a second source said.

When Kidman divorced her first husband in February 2001, they agreed to joint custody of their adopted children, daughter Isabella, 33, and son Connor, 30. But the siblings ultimately decided to live primarily with their dad, a prominent member of the Church of Scientology.

The Daily Mail’s second source noted that logistics were also considered when ironing out the details of Kidman’s custody agreement with country singer Urban, also 58.

“Keith has a bunch of tour dates coming up, and his schedule is a little less flexible than Nicole’s,” the second source shared.

“She enjoys being a homebody when she isn’t on set. And if need be, her kids can be on set with her on a more consistent basis. That is a much better atmosphere than backstage at a concert.”

According to the first source, it “took a lot of wearing down” for Urban to agree to Kidman’s terms.

“Their daughters are both in their teens and need their mother more than their father at these ages,” the source argued. “Keith knew he’d never win the battle in court and finally backed down. That’s when the divorce was settled.”

An insider close to Kidman, however, denied to Page Six that custody was ever a “sticking point” between the former couple.

“Nicole and Keith mutually agreed to and signed a document confirming the custody arrangement,” the insider insisted.

Meanwhile, Kidman, Sunday and Faith remain in the Nashville family home that Urban reportedly moved out of in the summer of 2025.

According to New Idea, the musician is struggling with the change in family dynamics, especially since his daughters spent Thanksgiving, Christmas, Faith’s birthday and New Year’s Eve/Day with Australia-born Kidman.

Missing Faith’s birthday, specifically, was “heartbreaking for Keith” and felt “like a gut punch,” a source told the Australian outlet, adding that he feels “completely lost” and “doesn’t know where home is anymore.”

Kidman filed for divorce from Urban in September 2025 after 19 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, though rumors have swirled that the breakup was triggered by his involvement with “another woman.”

“Sometimes, relationships just run their course,” an insider previously told Page Six, adding that Kidman “did not want the separation and was trying to save things.”
