Grey’s Anatomy shocks fans by adding Schitt’s Creek star to cast in latest shakeup after actor’s surprising exit

GREY’S Anatomy has revealed significant cast changes for Season 23 after losing several main characters.

The long-running medical drama returns next month with the addition of three new cast members – including a beloved name from Emmy-winning Schitt’s Creek.

On Monday, Variety confirmed that Sarah Levy, Martin Martinez, and Trevor Tordjman will join the Grey’s Anatomy cast in guest-starring roles.

Sarah will play Corrie, who is “witty and a bit of an oddball,” according to the official character description.

“Corrie is very pregnant. She has a lot of anxiety about giving birth to her second child after the traumatic experience she had with her first child,” the description adds.

The actress is best known for playing Twyla Sands in the Emmy Award-winning comedy Schitt’s Creek, created by and starring her brother and father, Dan and Eugene Levy.

Fans were thrilled, but in disbelief, that Sarah was cast in the long-running drama, with one writing: “Never in a billion years did I predict this casting.”

While another exclaimed: “I can’t believe they got Sarah Levy!!!!! Great get!”

Martin will portray Charlie, who “has had a rough upbringing and as a result of the trauma he’s experienced, he has a tough exterior and struggles to trust other people.”

The actor already has credits in Netflix‘s Never Have I Ever, Magnum P.I., and Amazon Prime‘s Primo.

Rounding out the new cast is Trevor, who will play Thomas, “the fun-loving and charming boy next door who doesn’t realize he is as cute as he is. Thomas is at the hospital to help ensure his brother’s girlfriend is okay.”

Trevor will be familiar to fans of the Canadian series The Next Step, Apple TV’s The Studio, and HBO Max‘s The Sex Lives of College Girls.

Grey’s Anatomy fans are still reeling over Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman’s (Kim Raver) shocking exits in the Season 22 finale.

The characters – who are on-off love interests – said farewell to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after deciding to move to Paris, where Teddy was offered a new job.

“We really studied how each of their characters came onto the show, and what they came onto the show searching for, and we gave them the best ending that we could at this time,” showrunner Meg Marinis told Variety about their departure in May.

Kevin joined the cast in Season 5 as an Army trauma surgeon, while Teddy was introduced the following season as his close friend and cardiothoracic surgeon.

Teddy left the show at the end of Season 8 but returned in Season 14 and became pregnant with Owen’s child, beginning their complicated romance.

Though their departure felt sudden to fans used to seeing them in the hallways at Grey Sloan, both actors assured the outlet in separate interviews that they were happy with their characters’ farewell.

In July, fans got nervous that they’d have to say goodbye to another beloved character after she didn’t appear in the cast photo promoting the new season.

Ellen Pompeo, who’s played Meredith Grey since the series’ start, was noticeably missing from the promo.

The TV star previously confirmed that she had stepped back from her leading role after 20 years, but she isn’t gone entirely.

She admitted that leaving the program would make “no sense, emotionally or financially,” given that it’s made her one of the highest-paid actresses on primetime television.

Ellen continues to record the show’s signature voiceovers and remains an executive producer.
