Small plane crash-lands north of Creech Air Force Base, pilot unharmed

A small plane crash-landed on the highway north of Creech Air Force Base in Southern Nevada, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

The incident was reported on U.S. 95 in Nye County’s jurisdiction.

A bystander told News 3 via email that she and her husband saw the plane fly low before making a turn and hitting the median of the highway.

The pilot was able to get out as the plane caught fire. The Nye County Sheriff’s Office said he declined medical assistance.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that a single-engine Lancair IV landed around 9:09 a.m. with only the pilot on board.

Records indicate the plane is registered to a company based out of Plano, Texas.

No injuries were reported to anyone on the ground. U.S. 95 was closed for a short time for the response, but it has reopened with one lane in each direction, according to the sheriff’s office.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
