Wednesday Might Not Be Who You Think She Is, and One Theory Proves It

What if the Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) we see at the end of Season 1 isn’t entirely herself anymore? The theory suggests that Goody Addams, her 17th‑century ancestor, could be possessing her and slowly replacing her from within. Goody first appeared in visions to warn Wednesday about Joseph Crackstone and ultimately saved her life during the final battle.

The hospital scene after that fight raises the question. Goody heals Wednesday, but the show never makes it clear if her spirit leaves. From that point forward, Wednesday’s behavior changes – she becomes colder and more detached, losing the small moments of emotion we saw earlier with Enid and during the Rave’N dance.

If Goody is still inside her, Season 2 could turn into a story where Wednesday’s biggest battle isn’t with a new villain at Nevermore, but with the part of herself that may no longer belong to her.

The showrunners of Wednesday have left the door open for Goody Addams to influence Season 2, even without appearing in person. In an interview with Reuters, creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said the season will focus more on Wednesday Addams’ psychic abilities and her family’s history. Gough explained:

There’s more of the Addams Family this season. We learn more about the characters you got to meet in Season One and they have their own storylines.

Season 2 brings Wednesday back to Nevermore Academy as a reluctant hero. Her visions grow more intense, shown in the trailer where she foresees Enid’s death and blames herself. Her powers also glitch, producing black tears whenever she uses them. With Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, and Grandmama Frump on campus, the season highlights family legacy and the pressure of her abilities.

This creates room for Goody Addams’ influence to remain part of the story. In Season 1, she saved Wednesday’s life and passed down her spellbook, establishing a psychic link (as reported by Netflix). As Wednesday’s powers develop, Goody could return through visions or ancestral magic, shaping her choices in ways she may not fully control.

Millar said the new season explores how Wednesday learns she cannot control everything, which makes this lingering influence a natural extension of her journey.

Even without a physical return, Goody Addams could still guide and complicate Wednesday’s path, leaving viewers to question how much of her power truly belongs to her.

What It Would Mean for Season 2 If Goody Addams Never Really Left

Building on the showrunners’ hints, what if Goody Addams still resides within Wednesday? Season 2 of the show could become a psychological thriller in a horror setting. Instead of new monsters, Wednesday’s main conflict might be an internal one. Subtle shifts in her behavior, such as cold calculation, sharper psychic episodes, or emotional detachment, would make viewers wonder whose impulses they’re watching.

A lingering Goody would complicate Wednesday’s relationships. Friends like Enid or Xavier might sense something off but struggle to pinpoint it. Morticia or Gomez could worry that Wednesday is drifting from the Addams values they instilled. Her powers would stop being a tool and begin to feel like an invasion into her identity.

This trajectory transforms Season 2 into a study of power, control, and legacy. The audience isn’t just watching Wednesday solve mysteries – they’re watching her fight for her soul. In this light, every vision could be a door, every spellbook a threat.

If Goody still lingers on the edges of Wednesday’s consciousness, Season 2 could become a powerful arc about identity, inheritance, and the risks of ancestral magic.
