Outlander star shares major update on return of series with Sam Heughan

Outlander star Graham McTavish has addressed the future of his show with Sam Heughan.

The two actors front Starz’s travelogue Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham, which has aired two seasons to date.

Many fans are curious about the future of the show and whether there will be more seasons.

In an exclusive interview with Reach Screen Time, the 65-year-old Dougal MacKenzie actor said: “Season two was difficult enough to make because it was aligning our schedules, and at the same time being able to film it in an environment where there was sunshine. So we couldn’t film in Scotland, that’s why we ended up in New Zealand because it was the summer there.

“But we would love to do it, season three. Both of us would love to do a season three. It really depends on whether we’re both be able to do it.”

Despite their busy schedules, Heughan and McTavish already have a vision for season three of Men In Kilts.

McTavish explained: “In terms of shooting, it’s only like three weeks but it’s not easy. But we would love to do it and if we do it, we’d both agreed we would want to do North America.

“Going from Nova Scotia right the way down the Eastern Seaboard of the United States to go into Maine, Virginia, North Carolina, New York, all of these places that the Scots had such an extraordinary presence in.”

Season one of Men In Kilts first aired back in 2021 with McTavish and Heughan exploring the history and culture of Scotland.

The programme had originally started off as the podcast Clanlands, before becoming a TV series and saw the pair travelling all over the country.

This was followed up by a second outing in 2023 as the duo traversed New Zealand and explored its connections to Scotland.

They even released a companion book to accompany the series for fans to learn more.

The two actors have a rich onscreen dynamic and often play pranks on each other.

However, it sounds like fans might be waiting a while for a third season as the two need to create some space in their schedules first.

McTavish is busy at the moment with his Raindance nominated movie Dirty Boy, which recently premiered in the UK and will hit cinemas in August.

The psychological thriller sees him playing cult leader Walter Wentworth, who’s trying to keep the reins on his sect after one member – a reclusive schizophrenic – tries to expose the ritualistic killings the group have been carrying out and trying to pin on him.

McTavish said the character was one of the most evil he’s played during his career in his “rolodex of villains”.

He said how Wentworth would justify his actions to himself and even compared the quietly sinister character to Jeffrey Epstein.

Going on to discuss his future projects, he said: “I’m off to do a movie in Canada in August and then I’m doing a movie in New Zealand at the end of October.

“Both very different. One’s a Western horror movie and the New Zealand one is a beautiful sort of family-orientated film.”
