The eigth and final season of Outlander has been teased in a new trailer, ahead of its highly anticipated release next year.

Having been on our TV screens for over a decade, the hit historical fantasy TV series – based on the books of the same name by Diana Gabaldon – will draw to a close in 2026, with one final chapter for Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) love story.

The new teaser trailer, released on 19 September by STARZ, sees fans taken on a journey from the moment Claire and Jamie first met to the present day, where they are elderly and still besotted with one another.

The final season of Outlander sees the couple realise the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, which has begun to thrive in their absence.

The changes at Fraser’s Ridge soon become apparent, leaving Claire and Jamie having to decide what they are willing to sacrifice for their home and to stay together.

Family secrets are set to come to light, threatening to tear Jamie and Claire apart from the inside as they attempt to put on a united front.

The duo are faced with the ultimate fight for Fraser’s Ridge, after leaving the war for America’s freedom behind.

Starz teased: “Fans can anticipate tender romance and the edge-of-your-seat drama Outlander fans have come to cherish over the past decade, as the celebrated series approaches its epic conclusion. With a life-threatening prophecy, will Jamie Fraser once again escape the grasp of fate?”

Outlander fans were thrilled to see the latest trailer, but many admitted they were sad about the show coming to a close after first airing in 2014.

“I am currently on my 3rd round of watching Outlander. Its possibly the greatest show ever to me. I see something new everytime. It’s unforgettable,” one person said, as a second added: “Literally have chills! I’m gonna miss this one so much.”

A third insisted: “We need 20 more seasons! Never stop the show!” and another person wrote: “I wish that somehow Jamie could pass through the stones with Claire. Might give them more time together.”

The Outlander cast also features Sophie Skelton as Brianna MacKenzie, Richard Rankin as Roger MacKenzie, John Bell as Young Ian, David Berry as Lord John Grey, Charles Vandervaart as William Ransom, Izzy Meikle-Small as Rachel Hunter, and Joey Phillips as Denzell Hunter.
