Outlander Claire Fraser detail in Blood of My Blood finale hints at crossover

With Outlander season eight on the horizon, many fans think they’ve already figured out how the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood will crossover with season eight of the Starz series, after author Diana Gabaldon weighed in about the mystery voice in the trailer.

The Outlander: Blood of My Blood season one finale, Something Borrowed, saw Henry (played by Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Beauchamp (Hermione Corfield) trying to escape with baby William from the 18th century.

The last shot saw Henry holding Julia’s hand and placing it on the stones, before the end credits aired.

Many people have now speculated about what will happen and where the Beauchamps will end up, with some people suggesting the trio will make it to Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) in the future after Henry mentioned their daughter, as they hoped to escape Arch Bug (Terence Rae).

One person posted on Reddit: “ I think that Henry, Julia, and William will make it through the stones, but I don’t think they will end up back in the 1920s.

“Claire has bounced around through time quite a bit, so if they’re just focusing on her, they could end up in any number of different years.”

A second theorised: “My guess is that they will tie both shows by having them time travel to colonial America and meet with Clare. Kinda like Brianna and Roger ended up meeting older Brian in Scotland.”

A third commented: “Unfortunately, there isn’t much to talk about besides theorizing that they will land in Outlander season finale, which is a bit gimmicky from the showrunners. “But since that’s all we get: the way the last scenes were edited with them touching the stones together and then saying farewell to Claire are either heartbreaking because they will never meet again or perhaps they can give us a “glimmer of hope” (because “hope springs eternal”) that they will meet again, although they “don’t know where” or “don’t know when” [sic].”

A fourth commented: “The very last thing he said was “Claire,” though, so I can’t wait to see where, well, when that takes them to!”

Someone else added: “This was my thought – they obviously don’t make it back to Claire as a child, but they could end up in other times, especially since Claire is in other times as well.”

However, someone else suggested: “Obviously they won’t make it back to Claire, and I too hope they stay together…

“But I don’t want them to end up in another time. I want it to not work (for whatever reason).

“Obviously they would need to evade Mr Bug or whatever, but I don’t want to have to start their story from scratch, with new characters to get to know and a new setting. It will be two completely separate stories then, if they end up in another time.

“I love Brian and Julia’s friendship, as well as Ellen and Julia’s. We need some scenes with all 4 together.”

As second echoed similar sentiments: “I agree that if they go to a completely different time, it would be necessary to practically build a new show. I think they could be transported a few days to the future, close to the time they left.”

Another Redditor weighed in: “I do not think they will travel to some other time because how will they manage two story line set in different time period with new characters. Also the fact that Henry didn’t touch the stone so Idts he traveled [sic].”

Shedding further light on the final scene of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, star Irvine said: “Well, we filmed about five different versions of that and they were being written at the side of the camera, all these different versions were being written.

“When I saw that, we didn’t know what was going to happen at the end. Is Julia going to go through? We don’t know.”

He elaborated on Henry’s last-minute decision: “He does that because she’s living such a cruel life, it’s a horrible life for women back in the 1700s and I think Henry goes, ‘I can handle it. I can’t put my wife through that. She’s the one that needs to go back.’ Whether it works or not is to be seen in season two.”

He added: “It was all a big surprise to me when I read the first scripts of season two.”
