Netflix has unveiled an unexpected crossover between a newly launched animated series and 2025’s biggest certified phenomenon, KPop Demon Hunters.
Via a press release, Netflix revealed a special release that proves fans aren’t the only ones singing along to the hit tunes of KPop Demon Hunters. The music video reveal, posted to the streamer’s YouTube channel on Sept. 24, features a cover of KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack “Your Idol.” Jimmy Simpson, who voices the demon boy Abaddon in Haunted Hotel, sings the cover as a montage pairs this performance with the scenes of the character. “If Abaddon, the demon boy from the new animated series Haunted Hotel, was to write a song about his life, it would 100% be ‘Your Idol’,” the video’s caption reads. The crossover arrives just a week after Haunted Hotel’s premiere, giving the series an added promotional boost.
Netflix Unveils Exclusive KPop Demon Hunters x Haunted Hotel Crossover
Haunted Hotel has already proven to be a hit with Netflix, confirming that the show has “haunted its way into the global top 10 TV list” upon its debut. The 10-episode series was created by Matt Roller (Rick & Morty) and is executive produced by Chris McKenna and Dan Harmon. It follows a single mother and her children as they attempt to run a dilapidated hotel with her estranged brother, who is now one of its resident ghosts. The series features the voices of Will Forte, Eliza Coupe, Skyler Gisondo, Natalie Palamides and Jimmi Simpson.
Meanwhile, KPop Demon Hunters, which premiered on June 20, became Netflix’s most popular English-language film of all time in late August 2025. It surpassed the previous record holder, Red Notice, after accumulating an incredible 236 million views in just over two months. Its success was so significant that it led to a limited Sing Along theatrical event that also performed well at the box office.
KPop Demon Hunters tells the story of the K-Pop girl group Huntr/x, who lead double lives as powerful demon slayers. The stakes get higher when the girls discover that their rival boy band who have been kicking up a storm, the Saja Boys, are secretly demons in disguise. The movie features a prominent voice cast, including Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong and Lee Byung-hun.
Director Maggie Kang spoke about the film’s unique concept, stating that adding K-Pop to the story of demon hunters “really changed everything” and turned it into a “musical, and just more of a spectacle.” Kang noted that the idea was influenced by Korean shamans (“mudang”), who have historically used music to ward off evil, making the modern K-Pop setting a natural evolution of that tradition. She also aimed to create a different kind of female hero, wanting to show protagonists who were “messy and silly and funny… real and have struggles and flaws,” offering a more grounded take on the superhero genre in animation.
Both Haunted Hotel and KPop Demon Hunters are currently streaming exclusively on Netflix.
