How did Brian and Ellen get Lallybroch in Outlander?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood recently wrapped up its first season with Brian Fraser (played by Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) very much now married and on the run from their foes. Thankfully, season two is on the way with the stars already teasing some big plot points and books also being written at the moment.

The couple managed to sneak out of Castle Leoch on the day of Ellen’s wedding to Malcolm Grant (Jhon Lumsden) and made it to a bothy, where they were hiding out.

But their reunion was short-lived after Brian saw the Highland call to arms as part of the Jacobite rising of 1715.

Brian knew he had to join his clan and fight or face death for abandoning his duty.

Ellen urged him on and vowed to remain by his side throughout, if from a distance.

Many fans are now looking ahead to Brian and Ellen’s future and are curious about how the couple finally got their happy ending and the estate of Lallybroch.

How did Brian and Ellen get Lallybroch in Outlander?

Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novels shed some light on how the pair got their home of Lallybroch, also known as Broch Tuarach.

After her marriage to Brian, Ellen’s brothers Dougal (Sam Retford) and Colum MacKenzie (Séamus McLean Ross) didn’t want their sister to be a tenant on Fraser lands and wanted her to own a property.

So, Lord Lovat (Tony Curran) gave the couple the deeds to Lallybroch, which was located between Fraser and MacKenzie lands.

There was a clause stating that the property must pass on to Ellen’s children’s, however, if she died without producing an heir then Lallybroch went back to Lord Lovat.

Even if Brian had children with another person, they wouldn’t have been given the estate as it was a specific agreement for the couple.

Given Outlander: Blood of My Blood is still in the early stages, it could be a while before we see Lallybroch.

However, in Outlander, Jenny Murray (Laura Donnelly) reveals to Claire (Caitríona Balfe) that one of the last times Lord Lovat came to Lallybroch, he was promptly thrown out by Brian.

She also revealed how her grandfather Simon Fraser had attempted to kidnap Ellen and take her to the remote Monach Isles to stop her union with Brian.

Season two of Outlander: Blood of My Blood is already filming in Scotland, however, there have only been hints about the plot.

Previously, teasing the forthcoming outing, Brian star Roy said: “The fiery crosses are lit, and it’s given them [Ellen and Brian] an ultimatum, a crossroads.

“They think they’re safe but does Brian go and do the right thing, which is report back to his Laird for war and get ready for that, or does he choose to stay with Ellen and they run away and become fugitives and leave Scotland forever?”

He added to Radio Times about the possibility of seeing a baby Jamie Fraser: “Well, everyone has to be born at some point. Take that as you will!

“There is one [character name] I saw the other day in a script that we just got and I thought, oh people are going to lose their minds over this one!”
