Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 is now complete, and fans can’t help but wonder what’s in store for Brian (Jamie Roy) and Ellen (Harriet Slater) as they navigate their forbidden romance amid the Jacobite Uprising of 1715, as well as what will happen to Henry (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia (Hermione Corfield) after their attempt to travel back to the present. The historical romance prequel found creative ways to further the stories of both couples, adding to the limited information presented about them in Outlander.
Even though fans of the series based on Diana Gabaldon‘s novels are well aware of what happens to a few of the characters in Blood of My Blood, a lot of what happens to Jamie and Claire’s respective parents remains a mystery. Before the prequel’s release, it was announced that it had already been renewed for Season 2, with cast and crew currently filming it. Based on all that happened in the Season 1 finale, here are a few questions that might be addressed in the forthcoming episodes.
1 Is Season 2 Going To Develop Murtaugh’s Friendship With Ellen and Brian?

Although Murtaugh (Rory Alexander) and Brian’s friendship was rocky for most of Season 1, given his unrequited love for Ellen, we hadn’t gotten to see the character be supportive of the main couple until he experiences a change of heart in the Season 1 finale. Murtaugh encourages Brian to go after Ellen before she gets married to Malcolm Grant (Jhon Lumsden). If he hadn’t protected Brian or convinced the latter to trust his gut about Ellen’s love for him, the couple wouldn’t have run away together.
At the end of Episode 10, Murtaugh gifts Ellen a bracelet he made for her and tells her that he would be delighted to be her friend. This sweet moment between them made us all want to see more instances like this in Season 2, as Murtaugh furthers his ties with the couple and protects them from harms way. After all, Outlander fans all know about his important role in the life of Ellen and Brian’s son, Jamie (Sam Heughan).
2 Will We See More of Dougal and Maura in Season 2?

Blood of My Blood caught audiences by surprise when Colum’s (Séamus McLean Ross) masterful plan to save Clan MacKenzie’s alliance with Clan Grant was revealed to be a wedding between Dougal (Sam Retford) and Malcolm’s sister, Maura (Bobby Rainsbury). This shocking twist allowed for the noticeable chemistry between both characters at the start of Episode 10 to make way for what could be one of the most interesting relationships we’ll see in Season 2. After all, it seems like Dougal and Maura have hit it off quite well after getting married on a whim, and according to what we know from the Outlander universe, they do stick together for a long time until Geillis (played by Lotte Verbeek) comes around.
Hopefully, in Season 2, we get to see Dougal struggling with the fact that he’s married into Clan Grant, a family he seemingly detests and will have to fight alongside them during the Jacobite revolution. Maura will also mourn the loss of her brother, and will likely resent Dougal’s sister for Malcolm’s demise. Seeing them navigate the tensions of their union while also falling in love with each other is exactly what this series needs.
3 What Will Happen to Brian After Everyone Finds Out He Killed Malcolm Grant?

Brian killing Malcolm was not something viewers expected, and it will likely put his life at risk in a big way in Season 2. Although we know that Brian doesn’t die until a few years before Jamie and Claire meet, it doesn’t mean that he won’t be targeted by Clan Grant. As Brian prepares for war, he will have to fight alongside the Grants and the MacKenzies, meaning that it will only take a matter of time for the truth to come out about what happened before him and Ellen escaped.
In addition to having killed Malcolm, Brian will also be targeted by the MacKenzies because he is responsible for Ellen not marrying Malcolm and running away. After all, Colum had ordered men to go after Brian and kill him even before Ellen’s wedding, so it won’t be easy for Colum and Dougal to deal with the fact that Brian is still alive. Lord Lovat (Tony Curran) is also displeased with Brian because he was counting on the fact that his son would bring ruin to Clan MacKenzie and was notified of the contrary when Ellen passed the medical test and was proven to be a virgin.
4 How Will the War Impact Brian and Ellen’s Romance?

With Brian going to war, this will likely take a toll on his relationship with Ellen. Even though the couple have finally found a way to be together, Season 1’s finale signaled that the Jacobite Uprising of 1715 has begun and the only way for Brian to remain alive is if he fulfills his promise to fight for the cause. This means that maybe him and Ellen will have to part ways while he is on the battlefield, putting both of them in vulnerable positions given that they are currently fugitives.
Season 2 will likely continue to have romantic moments between, but their union will be impacted by the many people looking for them. Uncle Grant (Simon Merrells) suggested that Malcolm take revenge on Ellen for leaving him on their wedding day by killing the person she loves the most. Now that Malcolm is no longer around, Uncle Grant probably wants to avenge his nephew’s death by going after both Brian and Ellen.
5Will Ellen Get Pregnant in Season 2?

According to flashbacks, Claire is already alive in the present timeline of Blood of My Blood. In Outlander, she is only a few years older than Jamie, which means that Ellen will soon be pregnant with Jamie’s older brother William, who dies early on in Jamie’s life. If Ellen is pregnant in Season 2, the series will have to explore how the child might impact the animosity between Clan Fraser and Clan MacKenzie. It’s probable that the presence of a child will allow for there to be peace between the clans, after years of them being mortal enemies.
The baby could also put Ellen in a much more vulnerable position, since she fled from Castle Leoch and is essentially hiding in a little bothy, without many resources to fend for herself. Given Lord Lovat’s hatred of her and Clan MacKenzie, he could also threaten her in the same way that he did in Season 1 when questioning her virginity and trying to destroy her reputation.
6 Is Henry and Julia’s Son a Time Traveler, Too?

Henry posed an interesting question in Blood of My Blood‘s finale. Is his and Julia’s son, William, able to time travel? The couple discuss in the finale whether their second child might be able to get through the stones like they did, and conclude that one of them should try to time travel with him to test their theory while the other stays behind. Yet, after seeing Arch Bug (Terence Rae) alongside his men heading in their direction, Henry doesn’t think twice before grabbing Julia’s hand and basically forces the three of them to touch the stones at the same time.
The finale ends on a cliffhanger with audiences wondering whether the couple and their newborn were successful in their attempt to leave the 1700s. If William were to be left behind, there is a fan theory that Ellen’s son Wiliam, mentioned above, could be adopted. After all, we have no idea what might’ve happened to Claire’s younger brother based on the Outlander series, so anything is possible at this point.
7 Will Henry and Julia Travel Through the Stones?

Henry and Julia had traveled through the stones before, so they technically could time travel again. Yet, it isn’t a guarantee that they could time travel in the particular moment that they do in the series finale. All that we know is that Claire never reunites with her parents after their car crash in the Scottish Highlands. This leaves us with either of the two options, which is that Henry and Julia remain in the 1700s, or they travel to a different timeline.
The prequel has tried to stay faithful to the limited information we have from Claire’s parents in the Outlander series, so it is possible that Henry and Julia could get stuck in the 1700s permanently and have to deal with the wrath of both Arc Bug and Lord Lovat, or they get stuck in another timeline. It could also be possible that one of them stays in the 1700s, while the other manages to time travel. Regardless of what happens, the writers will surely continue to deliver a captivating storyline for the couple we got to know through the prequel. With Outlander‘s final episodes drawing near, it could be possible that we will have a better idea about how the prequel ties to the original series.
